How to avoid the potholes in your car and home
— A Florida man has been convicted of stealing a tractor-trailer’s front tire and then making a fake arrest to get out of paying for it.
Trent Kapp, 38, was arrested in March on a charge of grand theft auto and tampering with evidence after he allegedly stole a trailer and trailer hitch from a Tallahassee dealership.
According to a Tallanapasas County court document, the trailer hitch was stolen in February from the dealership and a second trailer hitch later from a Home Depot in the same town.
When Kapp was arrested on the felony theft charge, he had his fingerprints taken, but he denied the charges, according to court documents.
The theft was reported to Tallahascocas Sheriff’s Office, but Kapp refused to provide his fingerprints, court documents state.
According a criminal complaint, the suspect told police that he had a friend come to the dealership to steal the trailer and then take the truck to a nearby Walgreens.
When he tried to take the trailer, it crashed through a fence and caught fire, the complaint states.
Kapp allegedly stole the trailer from a Walgreen store in Tallahasa County.
The stolen trailer was found abandoned at the bottom of a ravine in Tallowassee on June 24.
Kapp was taken to the Tallahasin County Jail where he was found guilty of theft and tampering, a felony.
