What’s new in treadmill lubricants
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is taking a new approach to treadmill lubrications.
The agency announced Tuesday that it’s partnering with Proform LLC to bring a range of treadmill lubrication products to market.
The first of the three products being offered will be a line of lubricant called Proform®Treadmill Lubricant.
The brand’s slogan is “Made for Athletes” and its products come in a range from 1-8oz.
bottles and are available online and at stores.
“This is a significant step toward the goal of increasing awareness of the health and safety of treadmills,” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in a statement.
“This is good news for consumers, who now have more choices when it comes to safe and effective treadmill lubricating.”
The agency is partnering with the company to launch a second line of products called ProForm®TreadsMiner.
Proform will also be working with the industry to develop a new line of treadmill and treadmill-related products that will also allow consumers to get more than one product at a time.
The FDA said the products are made of petroleum jelly, which is a silicone-based substance.
ProForm said the silicone-like substance has been used for many years to prevent oil buildup on treadmiller and is one of the most widely used options in the lubrication industry.
